Cubitt Education works with artists, participants and partners to develop projects which take place in schools, care settings, youth hubs and other community organisations in Islington. We seek to build long-term relationships which are premised on shared interests and collective learning.
Our artist-led programmes include Saturday Socials, which works with older people on a long-term basis, and the Institute of Anything for people aged 13-19. We manage a portfolio of 10 artist studios in three social settings: St Luke’s Community Centre, The Mildmays Extra Care housing, and Arts and Media School Islington.
Through our Artist Social Club, we invite artists who are interested in socially-engaged practice to come together to exchange knowledge and network. To join our list of freelance artists, where we’ll update you with events and opportunities, please complete this form. We also support teaching and other staff within our partner organisations to develop skills and practice and through collaboration with artists.
For further information about the Education Programme, you can contact Lydia Ashman, Schools & Young People Programme at email@example.com or Esther Collins, Adults & Community Programme at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Cubitt Education manages 10 artist studios in three social settings in Islington. The resident artists receive a subsidised licence fee in return for donating a set amount of hours of their time a month to creative interventions shaped with and for the studio settings. The artists are recruited by open call and all share an investment in socially-engaged practice.

Saturday Socials is a programme of monthly Saturday sessions at Cubitt and outreach workshops in sheltered accommodation settings for older Islington residents. Working with Ania Bas and Lucy Steals, Cubitt provides social activities throughout the week as part of a partnership project with All Change and North London Cares and funded by Islington Giving. The programme also includes large scale public celebration events and seasonal projects with two partner care settings in Islington.
Going Places is a 3-year project which runs in parallel to Saturday Socials. The programme includes creative sessions in sheltered accommodation and care settings, a series of three public art commissions (Elsa James and Lucy Steggals, Ania Bas), as well as a festival and publication, launched in October 2019. Going Places is a partnership project with All Change, and funded through the Arts Council’s Celebrating Age fund.
