CUBITT CREATIVE MENTORS

Cubitt Creative Mentors is a scheme that pairs professional artists with young people from our target groups- young people at risk of exclusion, or with learning difficulties, or whose circumstances might deny them opportunities.  The scheme is unusual because it focusses on the creative development of the individual young person- empowering them as an artist, and helping them to access creative resources, which in turn has been shown to have hugely beneficial impact on their emotional and school life.  All our mentors are professional artists, some with international reputations.

Our first mentoring partnership has been running since May 2008, between Giulia Ricci, an artist and Slade postgraduate, and Montell Amadi, a 12 yr old boy. During the mentoring period Montell has made a number of incredible 3D constructions in paper and cardboard of imaginary characters; written and illustrated his first full-length comic; and created three animated films, which will be shown at the Holloway Arts Festival in June.
