Cubitt Education is a programme that aims to develop excellence in visual arts education, with a particular focus on the social benefit of the visual arts and the creation of cultural democracy.
As a diverse community of artists Cubitt has consistently maintained a central ethos of inclusiveness and a belief in the ability of art practice to enable independent thinking. Through partnership working, training, events, and publications, we aim to generate a sustained impact in our local area.
Cubitt’s education programme works closely with schools, community centres and groups in Islington, the fourth poorest borough in London, on a variety of long-term weekly projects that provide skills training, and promote community cohesion and intergenerational conversation.
Our programme includes a tutoring scheme for young people, free skills-based workshops, and regular participant-led activities within local schools.
We provide high quality creative activities for between 200-400 local people a week, aged 4-87 yrs old.
Through the School for Artist Educators we share and develop practical methods of education and engagement within the visual arts. We also support teaching staff and other staff within our partner organisations, to develop skills, and learn through practice and collaboration with artists.
