Girdlestone Art Class, run by artist Darren Marshall, begins a new year this January at Girdlestone Centre in Archway.
The group are beginning the term by working on ‘Girdlestone Island’ – a fantastical island collage created by the group’s own imaginative ink and pen drawings. So far the island includes planes for pets, tree house tower blocks, a cupcake bar and lots of wild jungle…
Today one woman said: ‘I would just be sitting at home watching TV otherwise, but instead I’m here painting. This class always stretches us, we never think we can do it at the beginning but we always do!’
The class is free for local people over 55 and is a lovely friendly group with new people starting all the time.
