Artist in Community Studios: St. Luke’s Centre
Charlene Sandy was in Cubitt’s community studios at St. Luke’s Centre, a community centre in Islington, from 2012 – 2014. During her residency she worked on her own textile and craft-based practice alongside delivering creative craft workshops for the older and younger people using St. Luke’s Centre. Charlene is also a fashion stylist and teaches crochet, knit and screen printing amongst other textile processes.
Charlene’s background in Textile Design saw her develop her need for using her hands to make beautiful things. She later worked in fashion as an assistant and stylist and has now returned to her textile roots through facilitating arts and craft workshops for adults and children. As Charlene regularly attends workshops herself she develops her knowledge of crafts enabling her to pass on her knowledge to others, thus keeping up traditions old and new. Charlene has recently established her customised cardigans business, Dexter and Delilah.
