OCCUPY was a series of workshops during several months focused on experimentation with various kinds of arts techniques and ways of working and thinking. Local young people from Islington have been working with 6 creative practitioners from 6 arts companies: All Change Arts, Cubitt Education, Apples and Snakes, Wayne McGregor, Random Dance, Islington Community Theatre, and LoveBuzz.
The arts companies were joined by 6 paid Young Creative Producers, who took central roles in the design, development and delivery of the programme and final events.
The photos below show sessions 10, 11 and 12.
This is how the workshop leader describes their work:
For session 10 we had a go at more geometrical ways of drawing, using a plum line, flicking straight lines onto the black floor. The lines became a map for the dance movements. We then repeated the pattern making on a smaller scale and participants used the lines as game boards running over and over the lines again following some self made game rules. The action of the hands was filmed and can possibly be used as a backdrop projection for a part of the performance.
Session11: Coming closer to the actual event in April we have to start testing some of the technicalities for the performance. We revisited some of the ideas from the 3days intensive workshop and tested some possibilities.
For session 12 we tried to work with movement and projection in a different way, instead of chasing the projections over the sheet and capturing their moves, we tried to develop drawings from repetitive movement against a surface. the movements were sections from the solos developed by Neil earlier.
