Year 10 students produced oil painting portraits of inanimate objects that were meaningful or precious to them. Students explored how an atmosphere or mood can be suggested within a painting, through the use of composition, different marks and colour tonal values.
The painting warm ups at the start of the class became as important as the main works on canvas.
This became a space to play where there were no rights or wrongs, to be bold and spontaneous, removing preconceptions about creating. In a more controlled way some of these approaches were then used in the main paintings.
